In January, the 16th Annual Leadership Challenge Conference gathered women from corporate, small business, government, education and nonprofit settings to discuss leadership in today’s world. According to the event’s website, the conference is “a day of education and dialogue for professional women eager to bring their leadership to the next level.”
The morning workshop was called ‘A Journalist’s Perspective: Asking Powerful Questions, Listening for Understandings.’ The seminar discussed two key leadership skills: listening for understanding and asking powerful questions. Its panelists included Gail Rosenblum, Joy Lim Nakrin, J.D., Roshini Rajkumar and Joel Hoekstra.
Gail Rosenblum is a columnist for the Minneapolis Star Tribune focusing on social issues. She is also the author of “A Hundred Lives Since Then: Essays on Motherhood, Mortality, Marriage and More.”
Joy Nakrin is a licensed attorney. She has worked at 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS since 2010, after spending two years as a morning anchor, reporter and producer with FOX Connecticut.
Roshini Rajkumar is the author of “Communicate That!” Throughout her television career, Rajkumar has reported and anchored the news, as well as launched an investigative unit. She also established her own company.
Joel Hoekstra, editorial director of Refresh Content, served as editor in chief of “Minnesota Monthly.” He also edited publications for organizations such as Greenspring Media Group, Village Voice Publishing, and MSP Communications.
